- Synopsis
- Former small town Texas beauty queen Birdee Pruitt (Bullock) finds out her husband Bill (Pare) is having an affair with her best friend (Arquette) live on TV, thanks to a tabloid talk show expose. Completely humiliated, she takes her daughter Bernice (Whitman) and heads home to her own rather spaced-out mom Ramona (Rowlands). She's trying to gain some perspective on her life--and maybe, slowly, find a new love with the help of handsome cowpoke Justin (Connick Jr.).

-
-
"A sharper edge could have taken a pretty good, if uneven, picture to greater heights, considering its potent ingredients and actors"
-
"[It] often resembles a rosy commercial"
-
"Forest Whitaker directed with a slow, sugary touch -- and, one suspects, an eye toward the home-video market."
