- Synopsis
- TV Series (2003-2006). The real show is backstage. Taking viewers backstage into the misadventures of the New Burbage Theatre Festival, in season three, Artistic Director Geoffrey (Paul Gross) is burdened with the pressure to produce a follow-up to his previous hit production Macbeth. With his ghostly mentor Oliver Wells (Stephen Ouimette) too busy trying to "crossover," and his one-time love Ellen (Martha Burns) preoccupied by the effects of his troubling mental state on her, Geoffrey finds support in Charles Kingsman (William Hutt), an aging Canadian actor wrestling with the fear of playing King Lear. Unbeknownst to Geoffrey, Charles is also the one person harbouring a secret that could jeopardize the entire production as well as his own future at the festival. Darren Nichols (Don McKellar) is back as Geoffrey's nemesis and is set to direct the Festival's commercial feel-good musical East Hastings. Rivalries rage between the musical and drama companies catching actors and young lovers, Paul (Aaron Abrams) and Sophie (Sarah Polley), in the middle. And for the finale, as in a Shakespearean comedy, the curtain falls on the series with a wedding and a song.
