- Captain Bradford offers Confederate prisoners the chance of freedom if they agree to serve as Union soldiers to protect frontier forts against the Indians. Colonel Tucker accepts when Bradford gives him his word that the men won?t be asked to fight against their own. They are sent to Fort Thorn, New Mexico, commanded by the rebel-hating Major Kenniston.
