- Synopsis
- A very free adaptation of Marlowe's 'Doctor Faustus', Goethe's 'Faust' and various other treatments of the old legend of the man who sold his soul to the devil. Avant-garde animator Jan Svankmajer uses Claymation and live action to render a surrealistic, modern-day treatment of the Faust legend. This surreal take on Goethe's classic parable tells the story of the unwitting Faust, who agrees to surrender his soul to Satan if the cunning evil spirit can promise 24 years of epicurean life in return. Alas, Faust begins to regret the deal almost as soon as it is struck.
