- Synopsis
- Based on the true story of two chambermaids (the Papin sisters) of 1930s France who murdered their employer and her daughter. Christine Papin (Sylvie Testud) and her sister Léa (Julie-Marie Parmentier) are prepared to take on any menial work to support themselves and their self-absorbed mother. In 1927, they are hired as housemaids by Madame Lancelin, who, despite her severity, appears to Christine to be the perfect mother. Over the next few years, life becomes increasingly strained for the two sisters as their own mother aggravates their growing resentment at being servants for the rich. In 1933, the story reaches its unexpected climax.
