- Synopsis
- Popular Shaw Brothers actress Li Jing stars in Moonlight Serenade, a gorgeously shot and utterly involving morality play set in a rural mountain town in China. Jing Jing (Li Ching) is an inn-keeper's daughter in love woodcutter Hui Sheng (Chin Feng). But pastoral romance is not all that occurs in the remote mountains. Jing Jing is witness to a terrible crime perpetrated by two rich brothers - and also one of her community's own residents! Tragedy strikes the town, and as tension mounts, Jing Jing may end up in danger. Alternating between beautiful exteriors and the familiar Shaw Brothers sets, Moonlight Serenade is harrowing and romantic, gorgeous and ugly, and altogether involving. Directed by longtime actor Yen Chun, Moonlight Serenade is an uncommon melodrama that stands out among similar films in the vast library of Shaw Brothers films.
