- Synopsis
- Meet the Rizzos, a family that might get along a lot better if only they could tell each other the truth. Dad Vince is the worst offender. But since the prison guard won’t even admit that “poker night” is in fact acting class, how’s he ever going to explain about his illegitimate son? His daughter works as a stripper when she’s supposed to be in college, while young Vinnie Jr has a secret sexual fetish that involves a 24-hour webcam and the family’s 300-pound neighbour. Vince’s wife Joyce is the family’s rock, but it’s been a year since she enjoyed intimacy with her husband, and it’s no surprise she thinks “poker night” spells A-F-F-A-I-R. When former prisoner Tony enters the Rizzos’ lives, Joyce begins to lose her head - little does she suspect that the handsome young man is in fact her step-son. City Island is a funny, touching and smart family tale about the secrets of the past catching up with the lies of the present, and accepting that nobody’s perfect - least of all your loved ones.

-
"In this story, everyone, man or woman, is a walled fortress of paranoia, secrecy, unsatisfied yearnings and anger-at-low-tide, all of which will rise and collapse over the course of what is a very funny film"
-
"A warmly hilarious movie about family members and their secret hearts."
-
"Frank De Felitta wrote and directed this feeble but well-stuffed comedy; Alan Arkin and Emily Morton are wasted in cameos as Garcia's drama coach and acting buddy, respectively."
-
"The ensemble cast is strong. At its silliest comic moments it has a sitcom flavor, but the overall effect is gently amusing."
-
"An affectionate portrait of a lower-middle-class, outer-borough clan, City Island works best as an actor's showcase, with Margulies's aggrieved, simmering wife the stand-out."
-
"After starring in a string of heavy dramas, Andy Garcia lightens up and goes for the funny in City Island, a breezy comedy that fits the actor like a güayabera."
