- The film is a remake of the 1961 feature film based on Jules Verne's famous novel of the same name. It is a period movie from the American Civil War era. It tells the story of a disparate group of Americans who escape the war in a hot air balloon only to find themselves on a tropical island where they are hunted by giant monsters. They will only survive if they can learn to work together.
