- Synopsis
- Vanessa Redgrave (Howard's End) plays Clarissa Dalloway, an MP's wife, whose life is thrown into crisis when a lover she rejected 30 years ago makes an unexpected appearance at a party she is hosting at her elegant London home, prompting bittersweet memories of her youth. Marleen Gorris, the Oscar winning director of 'Antonia s Line', brings to life Virginia Woolf's groundbreaking 1925 novel, which itself inspired Michael Cunningham's Pulitzer Prize-winning book, 'The Hours'. Beautifully filmed in period London and featuring an outstanding cast including Natascha McElhone (Solaris) and Rupert Graves (A Room with a View), MRS DALLOWAY perfectly captures Virginia Woolf's concerns about choice, truth and destiny.

- Critics' reviews
-
-
"Director Marleen Gorris and screenwriter Eileen Atkins have done a remarkable job of suggesting the inner mental jumble Woolf strove to convey and constructing an exterior narrative of luminous beauty."
-
"A highly romantic, deeply melancholy drama, the film offers psychological and existential insights about the inevitable effects - and price - of life choices."
-
'''Mrs. Dalloway' is as elegantly wrought and reflective as the material allows (which is to say that in this case, a trip to the library makes for an invaluable part of the experience)."
