Synopsis

On the Malabar Coast in the early 1950s, a British family finds itself in the midst of a cultural clash, instigating a reevaluation of traditional and colonial attitudes. As India goes through the growing pains of breaking away from colonial rule, an Indian-born Englishwoman gives birth to a sickly child. Her husband offers no support, as he spends his time in the arms of other women, and the British community itself is too busy with maintaining a sense of superiority to notice.
