- Synopsis
- “Pan Tadeusz” is filled with lyricism and a longing for childhood, presenting a picture of the dying world of Polish nobility filled with passion and intrigue. The 1928 film production by director Ryszard Ordynski was a blockbuster for its time costing over half-a-million zlotys. The film had an illustrious cast and beautiful scenery that includes Mickiewicz’s family estate in Novogrodek province. Although copies of the film were taken out of the country during WWII only fragments were discovered over the years until a 2006 discovery in Wroclaw allowed the entire film to be recreated. After 84 years the original masterpiece has been restored and the first screening of the reconstructed version, which took four years to complete, was held on November 12, 2012 at Warsaw’s Illusion Cinema.
